At the FDM network meeting on May 28, 2026, data stewards and other individuals involved in FDM gathered for a practical workshop to discuss the latest developments in research data management (FDM) within their respective projects in a face-to-face setting.
Project Presentations and Discussions
The meeting began with attendees providing updates on current developments in research data management within their respective projects. This yielded fascinating insights into the practical application of RDM. Topics discussed included the further development of electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) and the RDM platform Coscine. Other data stewards reported on planned or past workshops and presentations within their respective consortia.
Gökhan Dede attended for the first time as the new data steward in the CARE (Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction) Cluster of Excellence. He also used the meeting to present his project, get to know the data stewards from the other projects, and learn from their experiences.
In the subsequent discussion round, the need for a uniform file naming convention was a central topic. Additionally, an upcoming survey on the use of ELNs in laboratories and upcoming events were discussed.
Personal Exchange
As part of the monthly FDM network meetings, the Data Stewards and active FDM members hold an in-person “Practice Special” twice a year. This gives them the opportunity to exchange ideas in person and connect with one another in a relaxed atmosphere.
During the joint lunch that followed, participants had the chance to continue discussions from the network meeting in an informal setting and also engage in private conversations with one another.
