Follow-up Report on the Open Meeting of the RDM Network as part of Love Data Week

The week before last was all in the name of love, or more precisely the love of data. For this reason, the regular Open Meeting of the RDM Network took place this time on February 15, 2023 as part of Love Data Week online via Zoom and was not only aimed at the data stewards, RDM officers and RDM interested parties at RWTH Aachen University, but also at external parties. We continue with the follow-up report on the afternoon program of the Research Data Day 2022 held at the RWTH Aachen University. Just as last year, researchers from all over North Rhine-Westphalia were allowed to get a taste of the Coscine workshop and ask their questions about the platform for research data management. “FAIRThesis” Receives FCI Funding

The teaching project “FAIRThesis” by Prof. Sonja Herres-Pawlis (RWTH Aachen University) and Dr. Nicole Jung (KIT) receives funding from the Chemical Industry Fund (FCI). The project not only ensures a deepening in the field of Research Data Management (RDM) but also enables master and bachelor students to use the electronic laboratory journal Chemotion for research and final theses.

The findability and reusability of research data are important aspects of research data management and part of the FAIR principles (Findability and Reusability). The sustainable preparation and professional publication of research data offers various possibilities for reuse. Meta-analyses, optimization of own study designs and model calibrations are just a few examples. However, finding suitable data for reuse is increasingly becoming a challenge due to steadily growing data volumes and increasing diversification of data types and storage locations. On October 12, 2022, the data stewards, RDM officers and RDM interested parties at RWTH Aachen University met again for the regular Open Meeting of the RDM Network online via Zoom. The theme of the event this time was FAIR in Science.
Archiving With Coscine – A Field Report

Recently, the IT Center Blog team reported on the large-scale project “The Archive Migration” – What has happened so far” of the IT Center and RWTH Aachen University. By 30 June 2022, the archive migration should be completed and all classified archive nodes transferred to Coscine and the DigitalArchive. Archiving research data has already been possible with Coscine since last year. In this article, we address some queries from researchers and explain the background to why you should archive your research data with Coscine.
New RDM Training Concept at RWTH Aachen University

In April 2022, the RDM team will start a new training format on research data management “FDM II-modular”, offering you two-hour hands-on workshops on focus topics of research data management. The workshops will take place regularly on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12 noon.
AIMS in Coscine – New Feature Since March 22, 2022

Coscine is in constant development. As of this week, it is now possible to create individual application profiles using the integration of the application profile generator from AIMS. The new feature is primarily aimed at data stewards and people familiar with their domain-specific ontologies. What AIMS is and how the creation of application profiles in Coscine works is presented in this article.
