Contemporary research involves conscious research data management (RDM) with the aim of generating high-quality research data and keeping it sustainably (re)usable, i.e. findable, accessible and understandable (FAIR-criteria). The RDM platform Coscine – Collaborative Scientific Integration Environment—supports you in this and helps you meet the requirements of research funders and comply with Good Research Practice.

This event is part of a series of in-depth modules on RDM (FDM II – modular). The basics on RDM are covered by the Moodle course “Research Data Management – an Overview (RDM I – online)”. Please use this course as introduction to RDM.

Learn about the RDM platform Coscine with all its features. Understand how Coscine supports you in making research data FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) and in meeting the expectations of research funders.

Online Workshop FAIR Data Through Publication

September 10th, 2024 | by

The in-depth module for research data management offers you the opportunity to make your research data visible and reusable. Discuss with the RDM team whether your research data is suitable for this and how your data becomes FAR through publication. Register now for the RDM II module and deepen your knowledge of research data management.

What Can You Expect?

  • Motivation for data publication
  • Persistent identifiers (DOI, ORCID) and other aspects of FAIR data
  • Selection of research data worthy of publication (selection)
  • Publication channels and finding a suitable repository
  • Preparation of the data in a user-friendly form
  • Publication process at RWTH Publications

Key Dates & Registration

The online workshop will take place on September 18, 2024 from 10am to 12 noon. You will receive the access link to the event by email at least three days before the start.

In the second part of the blog series “Effective Data Sharing With Coscine“, we used the Coscine API to create a list of download links to research data in a resource. This list was converted into a structured markup format for better presentation and you learned about various options for displaying certain file types. In the third part, you will now learn how to build on this and create a web page to present your data. We will use the free services of GitHub or optionally GitLab to create and host a static website.

In the world of digital research, there are many different ways of storing data. But how can research data be managed in a way that makes it accessible and usable for everyone who should have access to it? In this blog post, we look at how we can tackle this challenge by introducing a method to fill in missing information about the origin of data. This approach is intended to make it easier to find and use research data – in line with the FAIR Principles.
