Happiness Happens Day
On Thursday, August 8, happiness is achievable. Because in the calendar of curious holidays from around the world, tomorrow is Happiness Happens Day (HHD).
Founded in 1999 by the US Secret Society of Happy People (SOHP), the organisation now has thousands of members from over 34 countries who celebrate and share their moments of happiness in everyday life.
In order to always see the bright side of life, it is important to understand that happiness is bigger than you think.
10 Types of Happiness
SOHP recognised 31 types of happiness, 10 of which we are presenting to you today to make it easier for you to recognise happiness.
Because most days we experience more moments of happiness than we realise. Today we will help you to better recognise these moments.
Amused
Whether we are thinking about funny things or experiencing funny moments. We are amused by those brief moments that confuse us – those that are eccentric, silly or simply different. It’s easy to have fun when we don’t take things too seriously, when we appreciate the differences between people instead of judging them and let ourselves be entertained by the irony and bizarreness of life.
What amused you today?
Satisfaction
The best way to find out how happy you are is to ask yourself: “How many things would I like to change about my life?” We always hear the latest, the best or the most exciting thing. But sometimes something tried and tested is a classic, and if we like it, then there’s nothing wrong with being happy with it.
Which “classics” are you happy with?
Creativity
Transforming your feelings into something tangible. Our creativity comes to life when we make art: writing, dancing, making music, cooking, decorating, taking selfies and countless other daily activities.
When/what was the last time you were creative?
Grateful
When you appreciate all the positive aspects of your life, it’s natural to feel gratitude. Gratitude is a happiness that becomes even greater when you are aware of it.
What are you grateful for?
Willing to help
Helpfulness is a fulfilling attitude that is followed by action. Those who are helpful see help as an honour and not as a burden. Helpfulness is happiness shared, because it makes more than just one person happy.
When was the last time you were helpful?
Humour
Regardless of what we find funny, life is happier when we can laugh. Humour is a necessity because it helps us heal, keeps us healthy and even connects us.
Who helps you to recognise the humorous side of life?
Joy
When someone or something brings us joy, our eyes light up, we smile and our heart beats a little faster. A joyful moment occurs when we are completely immersed in this happiness. Joy is often expressed in the love we feel for someone or in our passion for an activity such as playing the piano, teaching or cooking. Joy encompasses our whole being and radiates from within us. It is therefore one of the types of happiness that is easiest to share.
How many people have you shared your joy with today by smiling at them?
Love
Love is the most rewarding, but also the most complicated form of happiness, as it is a multifaceted and intense feeling. Although love is a universal feeling that we feel for our children, family members, life partners, friends and pets, everyone feels and expresses it differently. Love brings with it great joy and great vulnerability. One of the happiest feelings we can ever experience is when we love and are loved unconditionally.
Who do you think of when you think of love?
Motivation
Motivation energises us, making it easy for us to take the first steps towards achieving our goals. However, our motivation can wane if we don’t achieve the desired results quickly enough. The best way to draw joy from motivation is to set gradual goals that can be achieved and celebrated.
What are you motivated to do today?
Optimistic
Optimistic people instinctively look for the silver lining in every situation. Optimists are fully aware of reality, but focus on the good in a situation and not just the bad. Even if the only good thing about a situation is the opportunity to learn how to do better next time. Ultimately, it’s the attitude of looking at everything from the perspective of possibilities rather than probabilities.
What makes you optimistic?
We leave you with these thought-provoking ideas and wish you a Happy Happiness-is-Possible Day!
