Smile, please! Today is World Smile Day. We would like to take this day as an opportunity to motivate you to give your fellow human beings or strangers an honest and sincere smile on this day. In this article, you will learn more about the background of World Smile Day and inspiring wisdom about smiling.
Background of World Smile Day
The so-called World Smile Day was launched by the great-grandfather of the emoji, Harvey Ball, in 1999. It always takes place on the first Friday in October and is intended to ensure that we all dedicate one day a year to smiling and doing kind deeds around the world [1]. Today, October 4, 2024, is that day again, and the motto is “Keep smiling!”
A nice occasion, we think. When was the last time you consciously smiled at someone, for example, the postman, the bus driver or a familiar person from your immediate surroundings? Smiling costs nothing, only sometimes a little effort. Perhaps the four wise quotes on this World Smile Day will help you to give a particularly loving smile to strangers or loved ones when you meet them.
4 Wisdoms to Make You Smile
- “The smile you send out comes back to you.”
– Indian saying - “Laughing and smiling are gateways through which much good can slip into people.”
– Christian Morgenstern - “Those who start everything with a smile will achieve the most.”
– Dalai Lama - “Start the day with a smile and it will bring you good luck. Because whenever you smile, the day smiles back at you.”
– Nitschke
Have fun and enjoy today, the day of smiles, with lots of happy, smiling faces!
