In today’s digital world, effective collaboration is essential. The git.nrw project has therefore introduced a new feature: the ability to invite external individuals and make them git.nrw guests, granting them access to projects.

A Step Back: What Is git.nrw?

git.nrw is based on the GitLab version control system and is used to exchange software code and data and to collaborate on (software) projects. GitLab can be used to track changes, manage tasks, and automate development processes. In addition, the functions offered can be used in numerous other processes in research, teaching, and IT operations.

More information about git.nrw can be found in the blog post “RWTH, may we introduce: git.nrw” and at IT Center Help.

The Importance of git.nrw Guests

The ability to invite git.nrw guests opens up new perspectives for collaboration:

  1. Extended collaboration: External parties, cooperation partners, and individuals outside of a DH.NRW university can now be invited to work together on projects.
  2. Flexibility: git.nrw guests can be given specific access to certain projects.
  3. Easy administration: Access rights for git.nrw guests can be managed easily and as usual.

How Do I Invite git.nrw Guests?

Inviting guests to git.nrw is easy – you just need to have a git.nrw account and then proceed as follows:

  1. Open the guest management tool: https://guest.git.nrw
  2. Enter the email address of the future git.nrw guest
  3. Wait for confirmation: The git.nrw guest will receive an email with a link to accept the invitation.
  4. Assign roles and rights via git.nrw: Add the git.nrw guest to groups and projects and assign rights as usual

Detailed instructions can be found in the git.nrw documentation.

The introduction of the guest function in git.nrw represents a significant step toward improving collaboration.
