Beat the Corona Winter Blues – Traditions
Do you know someone like Freddie? Freddie starts singing the Christmas songs from her childhood as early as November. She’s already making the shopping list for Christmas baking, and she has a “backwards Advent calendar” that counts down the 24 days until the Advent calendar begins on December 1. Advent is then celebrated with relish. That puts her in a good mood. And that even in bad weather and also despite Corona.
Winter and especially the Christmas season bring us many beautiful traditions and customs: fairy lights, candles, the smell of pine trees, Christmas cookies, punch, Advent calendars, Christmas music… – maybe you also have some favorite traditions that you bring back from your childhood, like Freddie? And as Aacheners, we of course love our Aachener Printen. So just go for a delicious “Printen therapy”. It’s guaranteed to help!

Beat the Corona Winter Blues – Together
“Together” is essential to life.
The Corona Rules do force us to Social Distancing and AHA. But you can do many things to not be alone.
…zoom with your first-year group, start a (video)chat with your study group in the morning, take a virtual coffee break sometime…
…chat with your favorite sister, talk to grandpa on the phone, go for a walk with your best friend.
Life as a student is better together and nothing is more pleasant than a smile, a little chat, a good conversation, a joke that you laugh about together. Even things that make you sad or angry are much easier to bear if you share them with someone. It is better to come together digitally than not at all.
Because, “We can’t live alone without being harmed.” (Remo Largo)
And “Ensemble, c’est tout!” (Anna Gavalda)

Mentoring Whispers – Tips for Online Lessons
Without travel time directly in the lecture – online teaching in the digital semester makes it possible. Anyone who attends a live event retains the opportunity to participate, interact with the lecturers and ask questions directly. On-demand lectures for download or streaming offer maximum flexibility and freedom in your daily or weekly time planning. When to study, how many breaks you take and at what pace you go forward- it’s all up to you. You can adapt the lecture to your own pace. Ideally, a course offers both – or is even designed directly for online teaching, e.g. according to the flipped class room concept. What advantages do you see in online teaching and how do you prefer to use it?
Be prepared – Have everything you need at hand. This includes lecture notes, notepad and pen as well as a snack or refreshment. Having to run somewhere quickly during the lecture is inconvenient and distracting.
Quiet please – Make sure that you are undisturbed. If your roommate wants to chat with you and the washing machine beeps in the background – all this is unnecessary distraction. Set up a workplace and make sure you are undisturbed.
Participate – Every course, not only the online ones, depends on participation. Speak up and ask when things are unclear. Find out how this can be done in your classes.
Give feedback – The online concept is also new for the teachers. Not every digital course is already running optimally. Constructive feedback and suggestions are welcome. If you like something particularly well, tell the teachers so that they know how their new concepts are received.
