Reflections on the Open Science Festival 2024 in Mainz
Three data stewards from the technical training and consulting group N. Parks, K. Dukkart and C. Gonzalez of the Research Process and Data Management (RPDM) Department recently had the opportunity to attend the third annual Open Science Festival held at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, an event dedicated to exploring the principles and practices of Open Science.
As in the previous year, the festival brought together a diverse group of participants—from students and researchers to decision-makers and Research Data Management (RDM) professionals under the inspiring motto: “Meet, Share, Inspire, Care”.

Review of Research Data Day 2024
“Into the data garden: Let your research bloom!” was the motto of last week’s nationwide Research Data Day (RDD) in North Rhine-Westphalia. This year’s RDD took place on November 12, 2024 and offered researchers and those interested in RDM an attractive range of information on the topic of Research Data Management (RDM). The aim of the event is to present current developments and services in the field of RDM, to increase the visibility of the topic and to strengthen networking within the community.
Report From the NFDI-MatWerk Workshop at RWTH Aachen
Better late than never: today we give you an insight into the work of the NFDI consortium MatWerk (Materials Science and Engineering). In July, it was the turn of the consortium’s colleagues at RWTH Aachen University to host the Materials Data Infrastructure (MDI) working group meeting. The three-day event took place from 16 to 18 July in the IT Centre on Kopernikusstraße. Numerous guests from the Task Area travelled from near and far to Aachen for the event.
This Was the Data Stewardship Goes Germany Workshop 2024
This year’s TU9 workshop for data stewards took place from September 11 to 12, 2024 at RWTH Aachen University. The two-day workshop provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on research data management in science and technology, with a particular focus on the role of data stewards. In this article we look back on two successful and instructive days.

At its meeting on June 18, 2024, the rectorate of RWTH Aachen approved the new version of the RDM guideline on the recommendation of the RDM advisory board. In this article, we discuss the background and the most important innovations of the new guideline.
Participation in the MSE Congress 2024
The RDM team from RWTH Aachen University was represented at the International Congress on Materials Science and Engineering (MSE)! Well, at least partially: we were represented there by members of the Materials Science and Engineering Consortium of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI-MatWerk for short) of the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University. We have recorded our impressions of the MSE Congress in this article.
Central RDM Services at the RWTH: GitLab
This article is part of our series “Central RDM Services at RWTH Aachen“. It is intended to show our researchers – i.e. you – which RDM services are offered at RWTH Aachen University to support you in your research and data management. We talk to the service managers and collect all the information for you in the individual articles. In this article, we would like to introduce the RDM service “Software Engineering Services” (SES), also known as GitLab.
Rat für Informationsinfrastrukturen (RfII)
In this article, we would like to draw your attention to the Rat für Informationsinfrastrukturen (RfII). Based in Göttingen, the RfII has been initiating strategic processes since 2014 and is concerned with the entire scientific system as well as with questions relating to the further development of information infrastructures. The RfII regularly issues recommendations on research data management (RDM). The RfII mailing list allows you to stay up to date on the latest developments.
