On May 31, 2023, Coscine was presented as part of the Coffee Lecture series of the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management. This time, everything revolved around the topic of “FAIR research data management (RDM) from the very beginning”. Coscine offers an innovative solution for storing, managing and archiving research and metadata. IAM4NFDI on the Way to the NFDI-Wide Basic Service

On March 31, the first funding decision regarding the basic service financing was made. The consortium meeting unanimously decided to fund the basic service application “Identity and Access Management for the German National Research Data Infrastructure (IAM4NFDI)” through the joint Base4NFDI project. IAM4NFDI is thus the first to take the path to an NFDI-wide basic service.

Shaping Data Spaces in Germany and Europe – Herrenhäuser Conference

From April 24 to 25, the Herrenhäuser Conference “Shaping Data Spaces in Germany and Europe – Impulses from Science” took place in Hannover. Decision-makers from the European Commission, the DFG and the NFDI consortia met to discuss the current and future challenges of data nationally and across Europe. RWTH Aachen University was also represented at the two-day conference.

Follow-up Report on the RDM Network Meeting in May

On May 10, 2023, the data stewards, RDM officers and people interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University met again for the regular open meeting of the RDM network online via Zoom. This time, the participants were guided through the most important steps in the FAIRification process using the FAIR Cookbook.

Presentation of the New NFDI Section “Industry Engagement”

The sections are an important part of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). In October 2021, the first four sections have already started their work. On March 22, the Scientific Senate approved the establishment of the fifth section: Industry Engagement (section-industry).

The last Open Meeting of the RDM network, unlinke past network meetings, was held in Presence on April 12, 2023. Above the rooftops of the city in the conference room of the University Library of RWTH Aachen University, data stewards, RDM managers and RDM interested parties from the university met for the RDM network meeting and to get to know each other.

RDM in Small Research Projects

The question of the right research data management (RDM) arises above all for researchers who are still at the beginning of their careers, but also for students who are already taking on smaller research projects. Since they have had little to no contact with RDM to that point, it is unclear to many how research data can be made usable in the long term. Recommendations for RDM in smaller projects can now be found in a new handout by the German Data Forum (RatSWD), part of the Consortium for the Social, Behavioural, Educational and Economic Sciences (KonsortSWD). A set of slides for university teachers was also published together with the handout.
