Welcome Week and Ersti Rally 2019/2020 – For a Smooth (Digital) Start at RWTH Aachen University

October 18th, 2019 | by

For some years now, the International Office has been welcoming the new international students during Welcome Week and preparing them for their first semester at RWTH Aachen University. Also this year the almost traditional Welcome Week was started by the International Office. In addition to the International Office, the team for admissions matters, the Foreigners’ Office and numerous advisory bodies and organisations were also present at this special introductory week. The IT Center took part again as well.

The participants were supported in all aspects of study, organization and life at the RWTH. All important questions about the beginning of the semester & Co. were answered with the help of presentations, consultations and the Fresher’s Fair in our Audimax.

Presentation of IT Services

All beginnings are difficult – we know that. But it doesn’t have to be when it comes to the set-up of the IT Center’s basic IT Services. Nicole Filla – IT Center, Service & Communication – informed about e.g. eduroam, RWTHmoodle and RWTH-Mail, with an interactive talk about the IT-basics at the RWTH on Tuesday, September 24th.

The audience followed attentively, even if in one or the other face still a little jetlag greeted. By the inclusion of the students into the presentation and some smiles, the keynote bundled up the most important information about the IT center and the available services. The newcomers were made aware of the wide range of offerings and the most important applications for studying and teaching at the RWTH.

With advice and action at Fresher’s Fair

The Fresher’s Fair in particular offered new students the opportunity to help with their problems and questions in a relaxed and open-minded atmosphere. In addition to questions about ConnectMe coupon codes and eduroam, the new students were particularly interested in the range of IT services provided by the IT Center for students. It was a great experience for our IT Center colleagues to be able to make contact with so many nationalities. The extensive buffet for students and participants provided an all-round supply and also offered the opportunity for small talk between advisors and students in the queue for muffins and coffee.

Storm and Stress at the RWTH Ersti-Rally

No semester without the Ersti-Rally. This was also true for the winter semester start 2019/20. Despite modest weather conditions, we did not miss to be at the disposal of our RWTH Ersti-Rally. Our IT Center colleague Linda Jörres and her reinforcement stood in front of the Super C. Between bouncy castles and a lifelike Looping Louie implementation Linda and the team answered questions on topics such as RWTHonline and RWTHmoodle. “Why can’t I log into RWTHonline, yet?” and “What do I have to enter as user name if I want to check my RWTH e-mail” were prominent questions under the Super C roof on Templergraben.
