Do you already know the TIM-CAMPUS coupling?

Probably many of you have heard about the TIM-CAMPUS coupling before. But what is it and what is it used for?

CAMPUS – our information system

In order to explain this, it is important to know that CAMPUS itself is an information system that provides services relevant to teaching, such as Student management, study program and examination management, organizational and quality assurance services. Most of these services can now be found in RWTHonline. The organizational services such as the telephone book are still used in CAMPUS on a transitional basis. In these are employees registered by the institute publicly accessible with the required official information.

Combining business data

The TIM-CAMPUS coupling links the business data in the CAMPUS entry of a person with those from Identity Management (user administration). Thanks to this link, for example, the official email address of a to lecturers in learning rooms at RWTHmoodle. With this connection who employees also perform roles with specific authorizations such as the new role of the digital RAFAEL workflow for business trips.

Process & requirements

Until now, the TIM-CAMPUS coupling process was triggered by the organizational units in CAMPUS itself.  This possibility was deactivated a few weeks ago during the renewal of the IdM core system due to a system change and replaced by an partly automated background process.

If a new employee wants to take on a certain role, it will take up to four working days until the TIM-CAMPUS coupling has been carried out in the background by the IT Center and has run through the affected systems. This is an interim solution that will be replaced by a new process in the course of the coming year.

The prerequisite is that the registered persons have already activated themselves at the RWTH and have a user name (e.g. ab123456). Only in this case the coupling can be established.

Whether the TIM-CAMPUS coupling has been successfully completed, can be seen by the employees at the Selfservice User data –> RWTH data –> CAMPUS Entries. Afterwards, the linked person can accept and perceived the different roles

THIS is the TIM-CAMPUS coupling!
