They are the heroes of everyday life, often to be found in rooms with lots and lots of hardware. When problems of all kinds arise, their expertise is valued and their judgment trusted.
Who are we talking about? Our system administrators – SysAdmins for short.
Today – the third Friday in July – is dedicated to them:
On System Administrator Appreciation Day we celebrate our system administrators!
Without the system administrators, RWTH Aachen University would be pretty much up a creek when the going gets tough. No matter if it is about functioning computers, virus defense, e-mail, printer problems, website accessibility, data backups, network configurations or internet accessibility, the SysAdmins are always on the spot.
We thank you for the countless answered questions, explanations and assistance with which you accompany us in our daily work. Thanks for your reassuring words when “nothing works” again and the screen wants to display cryptic messages or just nothing at all.
Your magic hands often solve problems with three clicks, where we mere mortals don’t even know what’s broken after three hours of googling.
We are very happy that you exist!
That’s why we say:
01110100 01101000 01100001 01101110 01101011
01111001 01101111 01110101
You only see zeros and ones?
This is “thank you” translated into binary code 🙂
