Today, January 8, 2024, is this year’s Clear Your Desk Day – a day dedicated to bringing order and structure to our workspace. It reminds us how important it is to tidy and organize our work environment in order to work more productively and with less stress. Whether you use a desk for business or private purposes, you can only benefit from a tidy environment. In the following blog post, we explain how you can implement this tidiness.

Why is it Important to Keep Your Desk Tidy?

A tidy desk not only creates physical space, but also mental clarity. By tidying up our workspace, we can improve focus, minimize distractions, and work more efficiently. It’s amazing how much of an impact tidiness can have on our work ethic and productivity. Try it out for yourself! But what’s the best way to do it? We’ll explain in the following sections.

This Is How It Works

Start the day by clearing your desk of clutter and unnecessary items. Sort documents, archive what is not currently relevant and get rid of what is no longer needed. Create a system to avoid clutter in the future and tidy up regularly. Use this day to create a fresh, tidy working environment that supports and motivates you.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Make decisions: Start by removing items that you no longer need. Decide what can go and what you want to keep.
  2. Categorizing: Sort the remaining items into categories such as documents, office supplies, personal items and whatever else is on your desk.
  3. Filing system: Create a filing system, be it through folders, drawers, or containers. This will help you keep a clear overview of important documents.
  4. Regular clearing out: Establish a routine for regularly cleaning and organizing your desk to avoid unnecessary clutter. A schedule can help you with this.
  5. Digital tidying: Also clean your digital environment by organizing files, sorting emails, and deleting unnecessary apps or files.
  6. Go paperless: Digitize your documents and go paperless to minimize physical clutter.
  7. Reward system: work first, pleasure second. Reward yourself after you have cleared off your desk. This can give you extra motivation to keep your workspace clean and tidy.

So, grab your organizing tools and start a tidy and productive day!
