April 1st is the only day of the year when IT people are officially allowed to admit they have a sense of humor. Between tickets, updates, and the third reboot of the day, there’s sometimes still time for a little April Fools’ prank.

Situations that might happen today:

  1. At the office:
“Have you heard? You have to pay to use the internet today!”
  2. IT Support:
    User: “My screen is black!”
IT: “Is the computer turned on?”
User: “Wait… it is now. Thanks!”
  3. Programmer joke:
Why do programmers confuse Halloween and Christmas?
    Because 31 OCT = 25 DEC.

New “features” that are suddenly announced are also particularly popular:

  • An AI that automatically shortens meetings if someone still wants to say something.
  • An update that automatically makes passwords even more complicated—now with hieroglyphs and emojis.
  • Or the printer that only works if you speak nicely to it.

And of course, everyone in IT knows this one line: “I didn’t do anything, suddenly everything was gone.”

With that in mind: If something isn’t working in IT today—don’t worry.
It could be a bug.It could be an update.
Or just a very successful April Fools’ joke.

Happy April 1st—and remember: Sometimes the real joke is the Wi-Fi.
