The EUNIS Annual Conference at the West University of Timisoara brought together the European higher education IT community from June 2 to 4, 2026. Under the motto “Advancing freedom in higher education,” the focus was on digitalization, innovation, and the future of higher education institutions.

EUNIS (European University Information Systems) is the European association for university information systems and connects universities, colleges, and IT experts from across Europe. The community’s goal is to drive digital transformation in higher education through knowledge exchange, collaboration, and joint solutions. The EUNIS Annual Congress takes place once a year. The event is considered one of the most important platforms for digital innovation in the European higher education sector and brings together executives, researchers, IT specialists, and decision-makers from academia and administration.

Ritchy – Federated AI at the EUNIS Congress

A particular highlight was the presentation of the IT Center’s scientific paper “Ritchy – Federated AI: Quality Assurance, Architecture, Operations.” The presentation focused on experiences from live operation as well as approaches to quality assurance for an AI-powered chatbot. In addition, the concept of a federated AI service was introduced, which makes it possible to make the solution available to other universities while simultaneously accommodating the individual requirements of each institution.

Shaping Digitalization Together

The congress program offered numerous opportunities to gain new perspectives on digital transformation in higher education. High-profile keynotes, engaging panel discussions, as well as academic presentations and exhibitions provided fascinating insights into current developments and future initiatives. In addition to the official program items, the conference offered many opportunities for personal exchange. Conversations with representatives from other universities and companies, as well as informal exchanges during coffee breaks, opened new perspectives and provided fresh inspiration for future projects.

Between Conference Sessions and Evening Events

The social program also contributed to making the congress a special experience. Joint dinners at various restaurants in the city provided an opportunity to further deepen connections while getting to know Timisoara’s culture and hospitality. The gala dinner at the Hotel Timisoara served as a festive conclusion. In this celebratory setting, the best academic papers and presentations were honored, and attendees reflected together on the past few days. The three days in Timisoara were an enriching experience. In addition to the many new impressions, valuable contacts were made and new opportunities for future collaboration emerged. We are grateful to be part of this dedicated European community and to contribute together to the digital future of higher education institutions. We would like to express our sincere thanks for the opportunity to present our work at the EUNIS Congress.
