On October 1, 2026, the IT Center participated in the Freshers’ Fair for new international students. This year, the event took place in the C.A.R.L. lecture hall building and, together with over 40 exhibitors, marked a great start to the 2026/27 winter semester.
Freshers’ Fair
The event kicked off at 1pm, and the building filled with many new international students who could learn all about RWTH’s IT services at our booth. Alongside the IT Center, numerous other internal and external exhibitors were on site, such as the Student Councils, the University Library, the Inclusive Education Officer, University Sports, the Office for International Students, the Queerreferat, and the Techniker Krankenkasse health insurance provider. All students received a stamp card in advance, which was divided into five topic areas to be worked through. The main goal was to collect all the stamps, engage in conversation with the exhibitors, and gain a comprehensive overview of the diverse offerings at RWTH. Once the checklist was fully stamped, participants had a chance to win small prizes. A special highlight for the participants was the ice cream: There were six different flavors, including chocolate, pistachio, cookies, and lemon.
We Were There!
There was plenty to discover at our booth. We had merchandise on hand and were able to help many international students resolve their IT issues. QR codes linking to short URLs for the relevant instructions allowed us to answer many questions right away. In some cases, we even provided on-site support, and the students were happy to be able to solve their problems immediately. In total, we handled around 108 inquiries and logged them as tickets. The most common topics were general inquiries (40 tickets) and eduroam (36 tickets). We also addressed eight inquiries regarding email and six regarding multi-factor authentication. Another eight inquiries related to services not provided by the IT Center.
