I conducted my internship at the company AQ Solutions which produces medical implants. It focuses on prostheses for revision surgery, including standard as well as patient specific implants which are all produced using additive manufacturing. I was part of a project concerning patient specific hip prostheses. My task included the automation of two finite-element-analyses (FEA) for preclinical testing according to the two standards ISO 7206-4:2010 and ISO 7206-6:2013. They describe how to determine the endurance properties of stemmed femoral components of total hip joints under specified conditions. After having realized the automation of the FEAs using the API of Solidworks, I tested all prostheses available in the database of AQ Solutions to identify the worst-case prostheses that still fulfill all requirements so that they can be used as references for future prostheses.
