On our blog, we have already reported on the decoupling of NFDI Basic Services from the third round of calls for proposals. In the blog post NFDI-Basisdienste – Ein Überblick über die Entstehung und den weiteren Verlauf der Querschnittskonsortien (NFDI Basis Services – An overview of the emergence and further development of the cross-sectional consortia), the beginnings of the Basic Services were highlighted, the statement of the DFG was summarized, and a small outlook into the near future was given.

Contrary to what was assumed at the time, the German Research Foundation (DFG) has already published the schedule for the decision-making process for basic services funding in December 2021 and this has already caused some reactions from the scientific community. In this blog post we would like to inform you about it.

The following dates were specified in the DFG communication:

  • January 2022: Publication of the call for proposals for basic service consortia in the National Research Data Infrastructure.
  • March 21, 2022: Binding pre-registration of proposals for basic service consortia.
  • April 29, 2022: Deadline for submission of applications for basic service consortia.
  • May 2022: Review
  • June 2022: Vote by the NFDI scientific senate
  • July 2022: Evaluation by the NFDI expert panel.

The final funding decision will be made by the Joint Science Conference (GWK) in November 2022.

Breaking News

On January 18, 2022, it was announced that on January 14, 2022, at the NFDI Association Consortium Meeting, the consortia represented therein agreed to publish a joint position statement on basic services. Thus, the statement has been signed 24 times. Further signatures are expected and the document is expected to be updated.

Further funding opportunities

Further funding opportunities in the context of the calls “Information Infrastructures for Research Data” and “e-Research Technologies” have already been briefly mentioned in the last post. More information on these will appear on this blog soon. Don’t miss them!
