The RDM team invited to the regular meeting of the Research Data Management (RDM) network on March 9, 2022 and once again data stewards, RDM officers and people interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University came together again online via Zoom. This time, the participants discussed strategies for introducing data management plans (DMPs) in projects.
Strategies for introducing data management plans
The data stewards Soo-Yon Kim and Steffen Hillemacher kicked things off. In their contribution, they presented the planned procedure at the Cluster of Excellence “Internet of Production” (IoP) for the implementation of DMPs. After extensive preliminary work and definition of the DMP tooling – in this case Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO) – the introduction of DMPs relies on close cooperation with selected researchers (so-called power users) and their feedback in order to develop a suitable questionnaire as well as a suitable training programme.
In the second presentation, the Data Steward of Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1382 Gut-Liver Axis Lukas Bossert introduced the concept of his HandsOn-Workshops as another approach to the introduction of DMPs and other data management strategies. In the course of this, he also spoke about his first – partly bumpy – experiences with DMPs at the CRC and how these were mastered.
Strategic considerations on the Miro-Board
After the two presentations, things got interactive. In two breakout sessions, the participants discussed potential or existing strategies for data management and compiled their thoughts on a Miro whiteboard. These were discussed afterwards in the main session.
