The flyer for Research Data Management (RDM) has been given a new coat of paint. Once a bit outdated, the document has been put through its paces over the last six months of collaboration with Marketing and Event Management (Marie) and the RDM team, consisting of the IT Center’s Research Process & Data Management (RPDM) department and the University Library (UB), and finalized for the public. In this blog post, we would like to introduce you to our new RDM flyer.
Life cycle of research data
First of all, it must be stated that research is based on research data. These can be recorded, collected, stored, published and archived so that a sustainable reusability can be created. Research data is therefore subject to a life cycle that extends from the planning of a research project, through collection, evaluation and storage, to the sustainable archiving of the data.

What can be expected in it?
The RDM flyer or the materials for the flyer were originally provided by the state initiative fdm.nrw for free reuse. We have supplemented the materials with our own services and adapted them to the corporate design of RWTH Aachen University.
The RDM flyer contains exciting information and explanations about research data and the management behind it. It explains what added value RDM offers to research, what the FAIR principles are, and how researchers can create a data management plan, for example. Storage media, data publication, electronic lab notebooks and archiving are at the heart of the 16-page handy flyer. And the infamous metadata and metadata standards are also covered. Finally, you will get insights into all services offered at RWTH Aachen University regarding RDM.
