To celebrate NRW Research Data Day (TdF) on November 18, 2025, we would like to give you a sneak preview of our “RDM Practice” and “RDM Services” arenas. Today, on Research Data Management (FDM) Action Day, it is time to boldly enter these arenas. This article provides an overview of the poster contribution “Data-driven innovation at Forschungszentrum Jülich” by Janne Philine Krahlheer.

Take part in TdF, engage in dialogue with the contributors, and take advantage of the opportunity to network with other RDM enthusiasts!

Transform Research Data Into Innovation

Research is data-driven, and every dataset has the potential to yield discoveries that can transform our lives, work, and way of thinking.

At Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), we leverage research data to drive innovation. Our data-driven innovation initiative supports researchers in unlocking the value of their data and translating research into real-world applications.

Contribution to Research Data Day

At the Research Data Day in Aachen, we invite you to explore the question “How can research data be turned into innovation?” We will demonstrate how FAIR research data can lay the groundwork for data-driven business models.

Discover how data can:

  • Drive new digital services in modeling, simulation, and artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Enable the licensing and monetization of datasets or algorithms
  • Foster intelligent tools based on scientific data
  • Support platforms that address global challenges
  • Inspire spin-offs that use data as their core product.

Reference to the Motto “FAIR Data – FAIR Play”

FAIR principles stand for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable. This ensures that valuable data does not remain locked in servers but instead becomes the basis for new technologies, services, and business models. FAIR principles unlock the potential of every dataset and make it possible to turn ideas into real solutions.

Our services:

  • Advice on exploitation perspectives in data management plans
  • Support in developing data-driven business models
  • Interface to start-ups, industry partners, and transfer formats
  • Consulting on innovation, transfer, and commercialization

Additional Information

Meet our FZJ Innovation Management on November 18, 2025 in Aachen and join the discussion on “Data-Driven Innovation: From FAIR data to economic impact.” We will show how to strategically leverage the value of your data – from research data management to the development of data-driven business models.
