On May 11, 2022, it was once again time for the monthly open meeting of the RDM network. Around 70 data stewards, RDM managers and those interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University came together online via Zoom. This time, the main topic was research funding with a focus on the innovations and requirements of the DFG for RDM.
New Video – How Do I Archive Research Data at RWTH?
Are you new to the topic of archiving research data? You think archiving is just a technical question of where to store it? Then we now have something for you: namely a recently published video on the topic of archiving research data, created by the University Library of RWTH Aachen University.

We continue with our series “RDM explained”, in which we provide you with important terms and information for practical research data management. In addition to the classic scientific journals, there are also so-called data journals in scientific publishing. In contrast to the scientific journal, these refer exclusively to data. However, some people are still completely unfamiliar with this form of publication. For this reason, we would like to take a closer look at data journals on RWTH blog around the topic of Research Data Management (RDM).

The breakout of the corona pandemic has presented us with new challenges not only in our private and professional lives, but also in the organisation and the conduct of teaching and research. There was a considerable, albeit unplanned surge in digitalisation. The RDM Team at RWTH Aachen University also had to adapt and make adjustments, especially with regard to events and workshops. Meanwhile, two years have passed and it is time to take stock. Was the changeover successful?
New RDM Training Concept at RWTH Aachen University
In April 2022, the RDM team will start a new training format on research data management “FDM II-modular”, offering you two-hour hands-on workshops on focus topics of research data management. The workshops will take place regularly on the 4th Wednesday of the month from 10am to 12 noon.
New DFG Templates for Funding Proposals
At the German Research Foundation (DFG), the topic of research data management (FDM) is becoming increasingly important. When preparing a proposal, you should therefore consider FDM at an early stage. This does not have to be a lot of work. What is crucial is that you reflect once on what research data you will use and how you will process it. In this article we would like to inform you about the new DFG templates.

As part of good scientific practice, research data should be stored for up to 10 years. In addition, more and more funding agencies expect information on where the collected data is stored. However, it is neither technically nor economically possible to store all data collected during a research project. Accordingly, it is necessary to carry out a data evaluation after a project has been completed. This forms the basis for deciding which data should or must be archived. Our new blog post gives a first insight into what should be considered when validating data.
Data.rwth Teaching Competition – Designing Teaching Materials for Data Literacy
Teaching data literacy to students – this is what the team of the data.RWTH data literacy project is working on. In the data.RWTH teaching competition, all RWTH members now have the chance to actively shape the basic data literacy modules by producing teaching videos as well as exercise and examination materials, and at the same time receive an attractive grant of eight times 10,000€. You still have until March 15, 2022 to apply! In this blog post, you will learn the most important facts in brief.

The RDM Team invited to the second open meeting of the Research Data Management (RDM) network this year on February 9, 2022 online via Zoom. The two originally planned presentations had to be cancelled due to illness, but the RDM team showed spontaneity and presented the plans for the new FDM continuing education concept at RWTH to the data stewards, RDM officers and RDM interested parties.
