Every beginning is difficult, but it doesn’t have to be that at RWTH Aachen University. Even though the “Ersti-Week” is long over, fixed allocations are set in RWTHonline and RWTHmoodle course rooms are being used, matriculation is still in progress. Particularly in the International Office, it happens that students cannot begin their studies at the RWTH until later due to entry regulations or succession procedures.

For this reason, the International Office has created a leaner version of the Welcome Week for all international students arriving late, in order to enable them to have a successful and smooth start into Aachen’s student life.

The Latecomer Program – A Wonderful Opportunity for All Involved

“What’d I miss?” – We all know this question if we didn’t make it to the lecture or meeting on time. Especially when starting your studies abroad, any information is worth its weight in gold. And by gold we mean time. Because the information that we do not have to look for ourselves is very valuable. This is exactly why there is the Latecomer Program of the International Office of RWTH Aachen University. And making new contacts at an event like this is also a wonderful opportunity to get to know not only the lecturers but also the new fellow students.

On November 5th the Latecomer Program took place for the first time and we, the IT Center, were allowed to be there as well.

During a funny, but also challenging online quiz, which was constructed by the International Office, a really great atmosphere was created. The neighbours and new fellow students got to know each other as well during a friendly presentation challenge where they could win typical Aachen Lindt chocolate, which lifted the spirits even more and encouraged them to share.

After this extraordinarily successful prelude it went also directly further with connecting: i.e. the ConnectMe Coupon process, with which the presentation “Basic IT Services” started.

Here, we, from the IT Center, had to chance to present information about the most important IT Services, which are particularly important for the start of studies. In an animated lecture, the students were proverbial taken by the hand and guided through Basic IT Services. From ConnectMe to VPN, there was all the necessary information regarding login, permissions and accounts as well as a few laughs.

Brunch, Wheel of Fortune and Info

After the various lectures about the start of studies, at which the Foreigners’ Office of the City Region of Aachen was also represented, the students were able to exchange ideas at the rich brunch buffet, ask questions and collect flyers and information at the information stand.

If you prefer to use the digital version, you can also take a look at the info page of the International Office. There you will find exciting and funny videos explaining the programmes and offers as well as the lectures held, which are also available there for everyone to read again.

We are delighted to have been able to attend this event and wish all RWTH students continued success and enjoyment in their studies!
