High Performance Computing, or HPC for short, refers to technologies and processes that perform complex computing tasks with high performance. High performance computing involves parallelizing tasks and combining the computing power of multiple systems. HPC is a key technology for our society and for RWTH Aachen University. Typical areas of application are science and research, simulation technology or business intelligence. The size and amount of data that companies work with is growing exponentially and the need to process data in real time is essential for certain purposes.

The worldwide reachable HPC-Wiki was created as part of the DFG project ProPE to establish and build knowledge about the effective use of HPC resources. A central goal of this wiki is to share methodological skills for effective use of HPC resources. For novices to experts, the HPC Wiki serves as a general HPC information platform, but also provides site-specific information pertaining to the particular data center.

The March/April issue of the Gauss-Allianz newsletter will report on the further development of the HPC Wiki. In addition to the expansion of text-based information, the online courses of the HPC.NRW competence network on the topics Linux in HPC, Gprof Tutorial and OpenMP in Small Bites are now been added to the HPC Wiki. Together with in-depth exercises and a self-assessment quiz for each learning unit, this creates a fully-fledged online course.

New now: online video tutorials on HPC Wiki

One thing is definitely clear: In the sense of a public wiki, the knowledgebase lives from content outside the competence network of ProPE and HPC.NRW. It should continue to grow in order to provide a broad spectrum of content and course materials in the long term. The Wiki intends to be the first point of contact for HPC-relevant content and information for users in Germany and perhaps even beyond. With the comfortable authentication via Shibboleth we are looking forward to your further developments of the knowledge platform.

  1. Incredible! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Excellent choice
