This event provides basic information on High Performance Computing (HPC) at the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University for different target groups and needs. It is the basis for the follow-up event PPCES 2022.

It focuses on CLAIX-2018, the cluster installed at our center at the end of 2018 and extended in 2019.

Part one

The first part of the event provides basic information about HPC resources and is intended not only for HPC users but also for decision makers*. This part of the event provides participants with information to make strategic decisions about using HPC resources and submitting proposals for computing projects that consume an appropriate amount of resources. No prior experience is required to attend.

Part two

The second part of the event is aimed at those who (want to) use HPC resources and those who (want to) program HPC resources (developers). It is intended to provide participants with a better understanding of the skills required. It will also enable administrators and supporters to optimize their support to HPC users through a better understanding of HPC activities.

At this event, you will especially learn the most important details on how to use CLAIX-2018. Those who run their compute applications on local computers will learn how to run these applications on the RWTH Compute Cluster, provided the necessary software licenses are available.

Our goal is to provide the HPC basics necessary to participate in our more advanced event, PPCES. The HPC Introduction is intended to help you decide which part of PPCES might be of interest to you. Basic knowledge of Linux and experience with its applications on other computers is an advantage.
