This year, we are delighted to welcome an impressive number of 103 new MATSE trainees who are starting their dual studies in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at FH Aachen. These young talents, who are being trained as mathematical-technical software developers, were warmly welcomed to the IT Center on September 3.

There was also an exciting program for our new MATSEs on September 5, which we have summarized in this blog post.

Collecting Points at the MATSE Rally

The MATSE welcome took place on Monday, September 3. The 103 new MATSE trainees started their training with enthusiasm and zest for action.

The official welcome began at 9:30am in the lecture hall, where the new trainees were given an initial introduction to their training.

This was immediately followed at 12:30pm by the traditional MATSE rally.

The new trainees were divided into groups and mastered exciting tasks and puzzles at ten different stations in the IT Center.

This challenge not only gave them the opportunity to get to know the IT Center premises, but also to make their first contacts and grow together as a team.

Award and Closing Ceremony

On Thursday, September 5, the second part of the MATSE beginners’ event was on the agenda: an introduction to the MATSE services.

Daniel Weinholz and MATSE trainees Houssam Nasr and Leif Janissen gave the new MATSEs valuable tips and information for a successful start to their training.

The subsequent award ceremony crowned the team with the most points as the first-place winners of the rally. The winners were delighted to receive a writing set from RWTH Aachen University. The team in second place received the RWTH keytool as a prize and the team in third place was awarded an RWTH mug as a prize.

Creativity was also required: at the “flashlight storm” station, each group had to spontaneously present a situation. The first-placed team received an RWTH bag with a notepad and ballpoint pen.

Barbecue in Glorious Kaiser Weather

The barbecue, sponsored by Mathe-Dual e.V., was a successful conclusion to the Beginners’ Days.

The parking lot in front of the IT Center in Kopernikusstraße was transformed into a welcoming barbecue area, where around 115 guests gathered to enjoy the glorious Kaiser weather and delicious food.

All the new MATSE trainees had a perfect start to their training.

Need More Information?

The MATSE traineeship lasts three years and combines practical training with a dual Bachelor’s degree in “Applied Mathematics and Computer Science” at FH Aachen. MATSEs are experts in mathematics, computer science, and programming and can apply their knowledge in areas such as web development, parallel programming, simulation, database development, data visualization, and more.
