January is almost over, the new year is picking up speed – let’s take a look back with you!

The git.nrw project reached decisive milestones in 2025 and laid the foundation for professional expansion in the coming years. We are delighted to review these milestones with you – so buckle up and let’s go!

Launch of the Project Website

The launch of the project website https://git.nrw has created a central point of contact where interested parties can find information and gain initial insights into the goals and offerings of git.nrw.

The website already offers initial course content that supports knowledge transfer around the use of git.nrw and git and makes it easier for new users to get started.

If you have any questions or problems, a contact form is available on the project website, which can be used as a first point of contact.

Would you like to exchange ideas with other users? A chat community has also been set up for this purpose, which facilitates communication between users. To join the community, all you need is a git.nrw account and you’re ready to go!

Start of the Pilot Phase

In May 2025, it was “Drivers, start your engines!”: git.nrw launched its pilot phase, in which three universities from the consortium initially activated the service for all members – from employees to students.

The pilot phase will run until August 2026 so that the structures, processes, and technical implementation can be tested and further developed in university operations.

Since August 2025, access has also been available to other DH.NRW universities. The Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences has also been using git.nrw since December 2025 as the first university to adopt the service.

This onboarding is a significant step towards opening up and scaling the service – a sign of confidence in the long-term prospects of git.nrw. The onboarding of further universities is taking place gradually.

Project Team Meeting

The project team was also able to exchange ideas in person at a face-to-face meeting. This allowed synergies to be pooled and key decisions to be driven forward efficiently.

From the Rearview Mirror to the View Ahead: Where Are We Headed?

Building on these successes, the focus in 2026 is clearly on growth and professionalization. At the beginning of the year, guest management was implemented to provide external participants with structured and secure access.

The website was successfully relaunched, making content clearer and easier to find. In addition, the training program was expanded to include the collected use cases in order to offer users a more comprehensive insight into the possible uses of git.nrw.

In addition, the first user meeting is scheduled for March 2026. The aim is to strengthen direct exchange between users, administrators, and the project team – as a space for feedback, best practices, and networking.

Technically, git.nrw will be further expanded through the provision of autoscaling runners to enable flexible, high-performance, and future-proof use.
