For many students, the RWTHapp is an integral part of daily student life. To find out how satisfied you are with the app and what features you’d like to see in the future, we conducted a survey in early May. The results provide fascinating insights into the app’s usage, usability, and potential future developments.

Who Participated?

A total of 1,080 people completed the survey in full. Of these, 98% stated that they were RWTH students. For just under half, it was their first year at RWTH; only one-fifth stated that they had been at RWTH for more than three years. The participants’ faculty affiliations also roughly corresponded to the RWTH average.

Awareness, Usage Patterns, and Usability of the RWTHapp

About half of the participants learned about the RWTHapp from fellow students, and just under 40% heard about it from their freshman tutors.

For the first time, more than half (56%) reported using the RWTHapp on iOS or iPadOS, while 49% use Android. Nearly 100% said they use the app on their smartphone, and one-third also use it on a tablet.

Features and Navigation

New this year were the questions about the RWTHapp’s features. We wanted to know which features you think belong in the main navigation and which ones you could do without.

Just over a quarter would leave the main navigation as it is. Of the remaining 75%, most would include the calendar and cafeteria in the main navigation, followed by the home page and RWTHmoodle – that is, the features that are currently in the main navigation.

Feedback and Feature Requests

Among the most frequently mentioned requests are greater RWTHmoodle integration, the ability to access certificates from RWTHonline, exam statistics, and additional display options for the calendar.

We’re already working on some of these feature requests: Soon you’ll be able to access your enrollment certificate in the RWTHapp, with additional certificates to follow. New calendar display options are also in the works.

Criticism was primarily directed at long loading times and the technical performance of the RWTHapp. Incomplete or incorrect information was also mentioned in a few cases. Since much of the content comes from external data sources, we cannot always directly influence it. However, we are continuously working with the relevant departments to make improvements.

Further Information
