#moodletrouble – Emergency Management at the IT Center
Probably no one who was involved in teaching missed it: At the beginning of the semester, there was something fishy about RWTHmoodle. The RWTH‘s teaching and learning platform had to deal with disruptions, overloads, and downtimes. Especially in a predominantly digital semester, it was of course crucial to stabilize the system and ensure trouble-free teaching again. Such significant disruptions naturally require special measures, so for the first time the “emergency situation” was declared in the IT Center.

RWTHonline Survey 2020 for Students
This summer, the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University surveyed students for the first time on a larger scale about their opinion of RWTHonline. Students were asked about user satisfaction and concrete usability of RWTHonline, the technical support provided by the IT Center and the new RWTHonline support form. The current overall rating of RWTHonline was also evaluated.

Corona lockdown in NRW also applies to RWTH Aachen University
Germany does not yet have the Corona pandemic under control: the still rising number of new infections require a hard lockdown from December 16, 2020 until initially January 10, 2021. The RWTH Aachen University is also living up to its responsibility as the city’s largest employer and is switching university operations to emergency mode from Wednesday. Employees will work in mandatory home offices from Wednesday at the latest. Nevertheless, the operational capability of the university’s IT services – especially with regard to online teaching – will be ensured in any case.

Christmas mood: Check!
This year everything is a bit different than usual. However, a few traditions should still be observed – of course, respecting the current hygiene regulations. Even if no big get-together is possible, the employees of the IT Center will come together next Friday, December 11, 2020, for a virtual Christmas party.
