IT Center Satisfaction Survey 2021 – The Results are in!

In October and November 2021, we conducted our annual IT Center Satisfaction Survey, in which all members of the RWTH Aachen University were able to rate the services and support offered by the IT Center.
In the survey, we also asked for your suggestions for improvements and – due to the special situation – asked questions about the IT Center’s handling of the Corona situation.

Was it really four years ago that our boss announced with beaming eyes that the application for network renewal had been approved?
Expanding the data network and WLAN, and switching to a new telephone system – in all RWTH buildings. It sounded too fantastic…and yet it came true.
Over the next few days, we stood together again and again in small groups and thought about how we could manage such a huge project. And shortly after that, I was sitting in meetings with the coordinator’s cap on my head, because all of our processes and procedures had to be discussed and adjusted. A huge jolt went through the entire department “Networks”, because everyone wanted to take on this challenge and try to get involved so that we could accomplish this enormous task.
ACI Conference at IT Center

Under the motto “SDN made in Aachen – ACI Datacenter”, the event management team of the IT Center and the Networks Department organized a workshop for data center operators in the university environment together with Cisco Systems GmbH and NTT Germany AG & Co. KG organized a workshop for data center operators in the university environment.
The focus of this workshop was the exchange of information about ACI, SDN and the current projects around the topic of data centers at RWTH Aachen University, but also the personal exchange and networking played a major role.

Insider Threat: The Threat from Within

In an increasingly digitalized world, cyber threats are playing an ever greater role. The pandemic and working at home also favor these threats. In the last two years, the number of cyber attacks has increased sharply. This is also confirmed by a study by EY (german only). The human factor plays a major role in this context. But what if the threat itself comes from within the company’s own ranks? So-called insider threats are often underestimated by many companies and organizations. Microsoft 365 at RWTH Aachen University

Meetings with colleagues, joint coffee breaks, self-organization during studies and exchange with fellow students – all of this would not have been so easy since spring 2020 at the latest without progressive digitization and continuous and flexible adaptation to the circumstances.
Whether in teaching, research, studying or everyday work – without the right tools, communication and collaboration between members of RWTH Aachen University is significantly more difficult in times of home office and distance learning. Read the rest of this entry »
New Hardware Shop of the NRW Universities

Recently, the hardware shop of the NRW universities (alsterarbeit gGmbH) has been available in a new design under a new web address.
Via the shop, institutions can purchase desktop and micro PCs as well as mobile workstations and laptops from Dell at the currently applicable terms and conditions of the framework agreement.

The relaunch of the RWTHapp is getting closer and closer! In November and December 2021, you already had the opportunity to put the alpha version of the RWTHapp 2.0 through its paces and give us your feedback.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your active participation – your feedback was and is enormously important for the further development of the app and has shown us in one or two places where exactly there is still a need for optimization.
