The last Open Meeting of the RDM of RWTH Aachen University took place on May 8, 2024 on the topic “Data Stewards and Data Champions – How do I gain support in RDM? How do I convince researchers of RDM?” as a face-to-face event in the conference room of the University Library.
Data Stewards and Data Champions
At the last Meeting of the RDM Network on the second Wednesday in May, the focus was on Data Champions at RWTH Aachen University. Various RDM stakeholders met to discuss the topic in a relaxed atmosphere above the rooftops of the imperial city of Aachen. After a brief introduction and various definitions of what data champions are and a refreshment of coffee and cookies, different teams were formed and given three 20-minute periods to discuss various questions about data champions (DC) and data stewards and compile the answers on the board.
The questions related to e.g. why data champions can be important for the work of RDM stakeholders, how data champions can be identified, which experiences they should share with the RDM community and how a DC program at RWTH could be organized. There was a lively discussion and reflection on how Data Champions, who are seen as hidden talents in the field of research data management (RDM), can be motivated to tell their personal story, e.g. how their scientific work has benefited from RDM and how they promote good RDM within their department or faculty. The results of the teams will soon be available on the RWTH intranet. We would like to thank all participants of the RDM network meeting for the many good contributions and the exciting exchange!
