From March 11 to 13, 2024, the Collaborative Research Center Transregio 219 “Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Complications in Chronic Kidney Disease” (CRC/TRR219) held its annual meeting in Seeheim-Jugenheim, Hessia. This gathering brought together researchers to discuss progress, challenges, and future directions and to continue to raise awareness of the management of research data (RDM).
Among the highlights was a comprehensive workshop on Research Data Management (RDM), specifically designed for postdocs, PhD students, and MD students, titled “Research Data Management on a Practical Level: How to Achieve Transparent Data Description and Storage.”
In this interactive workshop, participants worked closely to bridge the gap between RDM training and practical lab work. Many crucial points were discussed, and the idea appeared to develop tailored guidelines aimed at streamlining data handling and management across the consortium. This initiative seeks to improve data transparency and accessibility by aligning practices with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) principles and fostering a culture of effective data sharing within the CRC/TRR219 community.
Following the workshop, a dedicated group of scientists took the initiative to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for data management in specific research areas. These SOPs include:
- Guidelines for File Naming and Data Organization of In Vitro Data
- Guidelines for File Naming and Data Organization of In Vivo Animal Data
- Guidelines for File Naming and Data Organization of Human Sample Data
SOPs for the SFB
These guidelines set standards for file naming conventions, data structure, and best practices for data storage, ensuring consistency across projects and enabling smooth data sharing among research groups. By establishing these SOPs, CRC/TRR219 aims to foster a more organized and collaborative environment for data management, ultimately enhancing the quality and impact of its research.
