Third Advanced User Meeting of Coscine.nrw
Research data management faces the challenge of designing effective and user-friendly processes that meet the needs of different disciplines. How can the requirements in Coscine for storage space requests in the Coscine JARDS review process be optimized to ensure both quality and efficiency? This is precisely where the third user meeting of Coscine.nrw comes in. Data Competence College II: A Space for Knowledge Exchange and Innovation

From November 24 to 26, 2025 the second Data Competence College, organized by the Rhine-Ruhr Center for Scientific Data Competence (DKZ.2R), will be held at the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University. AIMS 2 – Interoperable Metadata in Research Data Management

Metadata is the backbone of research data management (RDM). It makes data discoverable, understandable, and reusable. But how can metadata be designed in such a way that it is both interoperable across disciplines and practical for use in specific disciplines? This is precisely where the DFG-funded project AIMS 2 (Applying Interoperable Metadata Standards) comes in. In this blog post, we take a closer look at the project and provide insights into its goals and priorities as well as the people involved.
ELN@RWTH: eLabFTW on Its Way to Becoming a Standard

Research data is the foundation of modern science, and its careful documentation is crucial for traceability and reusability. However, traditional paper lab books have their limitations. Electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) offer a digital alternative that simplifies work processes and makes research data available in the long term.
In 2024, RWTH Aachen University launched a pilot phase with the open-source system eLabFTW. Now an important milestone is approaching: on October 1, 2025, the ELN@RWTH service will officially go into regular operation – a reason to celebrate!

Valuable Insights and Outlooks: Meeting of the RDM Network and CoRDI 2025

The last Meeting of the RDM Network took place on September 4, 2025. The RDM team from RWTH Aachen University, data stewards, and meeting participants shared valuable insights and exciting impressions from the Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI). Additionally, we would like to inform you about another RDM network meeting. The “Data Stewards Practice Special” is scheduled for September 25, 2025. All RDM members are cordially invited to participate in this exchange and report on their experiences and projects.
Coscine at CoRDI 2025

Coscine was also represented with a poster at this year’s Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI). The poster showcased Coscine’s participation in the European FAIR-IMPACT Support program, which assists research data infrastructures in implementing the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). RDM in Action – Review of CoRDI 2025 in Aachen

From August 26 to 28, 2025, the second Conference on Research Data Infrastructure (CoRDI) 2025 took place at RWTH Aachen University. The conference was organized by the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) in cooperation with the Chair of Intelligence in Quality Sensing WZL at RWTH and proved to be an extremely important event for many stakeholders in research data management (RDM) to come together. Under the motto “RDM in Action,” the focus was on the practical use of research data. In this blog post, we summarize the highlights of the RWTH’s RDM team and provide an insight into the event.
