Role manager in the Selfservice

In our new blog series “Nice to know” we would like to give you some detailed insights into our services. This blog post is about role management.

Meaning

The role manager of RWTH Aachen University allows the institutions of the entire university to manage online services, such as placing orders in the IT purchasing portal, booking business trips or retrieving registration lists for examinations from the Central Examination Office, independently of opening hours. For this, however, it is necessary to have the appropriate authorizations.

Functions

The role manager includes the steps “authorize” and “unlock”. In authorization, a role manager of an institution authorizes a person to perform the corresponding functions by assigning a role. For example, if you want to book a business trip, you first contact the person in the institution that administers the roles, who will then issue a coupon that enables you to perform a role – here the role business trip.

Activation and use

To use one of the assigned roles, a link can be found in the Selfservice under the navigation point “Roles” in the column “Target system links”. This takes you directly to the relevant page or application, such as the business trip portal SAP-Fiori or various order portals. If you are authorized for a role in multiple contexts, it is important that you select the correct link. In this article, we have summarized how you can view the roles in the self-service and use other services on the page.

Assign, extend or revoke a role

If you are authorized to assign, extend or revoke roles yourself, you can do this via the role administration page in the Selfservice. All important information you need as a role administrator, for example to issue a coupon for an employee, can be found here. You want to know more about identity management and different roles?     Wer Rollenverwalter in Eurer Einrichtung ist, erfahrt Ihr im Selfservice unter dem Menüpunkt “Rollen” im Tab “Rollenverwalter”.
    Die “Freischaltung” erfolgt im Selfservice unter dem Menüpunkt “Coupon einlösen”.
