“Help, I’ve deleted the internet!”

Do you know any such experts who have deleted the Internet from their PC? How did they come to think that in the first place? It often happened by mistake that you deleted the icon of the browser you were using (often Internet Explorer in the past) – and thus the usual way of opening “the Internet”. But is it even possible to delete the internet? In this blog post, we want to get to the bottom of this myth.

Torrential Rain, Party Atmosphere and Pure Fun – A Review of the Wet IT Center Summer Party 2024

On June 21, 2024, the annual IT Center summer party took place despite adverse weather conditions. The day was characterized by uninterrupted rain, which, however, could not dampen the party mood of the employees or the atmosphere of the event.

Review: The ACI User Group Conference at the IT Center

On June 19 and 20, 2024, the IT Center at RWTH Aachen University hosted the ACI User Group Conference. Colleagues from Cisco and other partners from science and industry were also present. IT Center colleagues Benedikt Paffen and Philipp Tomazin moderated the conference and were available to answer questions.

In the spirit of network automation, presentations were given on various topics and lively discussions and feedback sessions were held. We present a review of the event in the following blog post.

IT Center Satisfaction Survey 2023 – The Results are In!

In October and November 2023, we conducted our annual IT Center Satisfaction Survey, in which all members of the RWTH Aachen University were able to rate the services and support offered by the IT Center.

ZKI “Training” Working Group in Wolfenbüttel

The ZKI working group “Training” has invited to a joint meeting in Wolfenbüttel from May 14 to 16, 2024. As trainers in the Service and Communication department at the IT Center, we were of course there to exchange ideas with 10 other universities from all over Germany.

We dealt with the following questions, among others:

“How does training work at other universities? What is the recruitment and induction process like? What do modern job interviews look like for us?

HPC: Shutdown of the Windows Front End

The IT Center has been operating one of the fastest high-performance computers in Germany for years. The current high-performance computer CLAIX-2023 was recently put into operation with state-of-the-art technology such as Intel Xeon Sapphire Rapids processors and NVIDIA H100 accelerators. This enables the execution of a wide range of applications from engineering to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Europe Day 2024: United in Diversity

Europe Day took place on 14 May this year, when the Berufsschule an der Lindenstraße (BKAL) organized a project day for students, teachers and interested parties. Our trainee Yasin Kalem gave several presentations about his time in Malta to show other trainees and interested parties the possibilities of an internship abroad. He already reported on his experiences in Malta in an earlier blog post. To allow others to benefit from his findings, he shared them at the Europe Day.
