Follow-up Report: Research Data Day 2023 – Morning Program

All good things come in threes! On November 14, 2023, the Research Data Day in NRW celebrated its third anniversary. Under this year’s motto “Promote and refine data: Bring your data treasure to light”, the state initiative for research data management fdm.nrw invited participants to a digital morning program full of fascinating presentations and lively discussions. One thing became clear: Raw data is the precious cornerstone of all research! Careful maintenance, processing and optimization can work wonders. In this way, simple rough diamonds are transformed into impressive treasures. In this follow-up report, you can find out how these rough diamonds are polished in numerous research institutions and which tools are used in the process.
Follow-up Report on the RDM Network Meeting in October 2023

On October 11, 2023, our open meeting of the RDM network for data stewards, RDM responsible persons and RDM interested persons of RWTH Aachen University took place again. The topic of the meeting was “Export Control and RDM”, presented by Mr. Nicolas Lunz as Export Control Officer of RWTH Aachen University.
Follow-up Report on the First CoRDI – Conference on Research Data Infrastructure

For the first time, the “Conference on Research Data Infrastructure” took place in Karlsruhe from 12 to 14 September 2023. The conference was organised by the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) Association in cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and brought together national and international experts from various research fields and research data management infrastructures under the motto “Connecting Communities”. With numerous scientific talks, discussions, guest lectures, poster presentations and networking opportunities, the event focused on the comprehensive use of research data. The academic world can be an exciting, but also challenging environment. The pressure to produce research results and compete in a highly competitive environment can often be overwhelming for young academics. To address these challenges and support young researchers, Young Academics Day was held at RWTH Aachen University’s SuperC on September 5, 2023. Open Science Festival in Cologne – We Were There

“Meet, Share, Inspire, Care!”: Under this motto, the second edition of the German Open Science Festival was held at the ZB MED – Information Center and Life Sciences and at CECAD in Cologne on July 4 and 5, 2023. The RDM team of RWTH Aachen University did not want to miss this spectacle and paid a visit to the cathedral city on July 4. We have captured our impressions of this eventful day for you.
Follow-up Report – RDM Workshop in Essen

From June 14-16, 2023, the Coscine team participated in the RDM workshop hosted by Landesinitiative fdm.nrw in Essen. The RDM workshop offered the opportunity to try out different tools, including Coscine. In different sessions, special functions of the individual tools were presented, which could be tried out by the participants during or afterwards. In addition, the workshop was an optimal opportunity to exchange information about the respective tools and to network. (*)

Shaping Data Spaces in Germany and Europe – Herrenhäuser Conference

From April 24 to 25, the Herrenhäuser Conference “Shaping Data Spaces in Germany and Europe – Impulses from Science” took place in Hannover. Decision-makers from the European Commission, the DFG and the NFDI consortia met to discuss the current and future challenges of data nationally and across Europe. RWTH Aachen University was also represented at the two-day conference.

On May 10, 2023, the data stewards, RDM officers and people interested in RDM at RWTH Aachen University met again for the regular open meeting of the RDM network online via Zoom. This time, the participants were guided through the most important steps in the FAIRification process using the FAIR Cookbook.

The last Open Meeting of the RDM network, unlinke past network meetings, was held in Presence on April 12, 2023. Above the rooftops of the city in the conference room of the University Library of RWTH Aachen University, data stewards, RDM managers and RDM interested parties from the university met for the RDM network meeting and to get to know each other.
