If you attended our courses on the research data management platform Coscine and Metadata, you know we need to securely store our data and annotate them with meaningful metadata and that Coscine can help you here. You probably also know doing that by hand can be tedious. Let’s automate it!
In this course, we will use a Jupyter Notebook to create Python script for automated data transfer in a step-by-step process. We will interact with the Coscine projects and resources using the Coscine Python SDK. In the end, you will have the foundations to create your own scripts to automate your data workflows, enabling you to transfer data and metadata from a local computer or server to Coscine.
This event is part of a series of in-depth modules on research data management (RDM II – modular). The basics on research data management are covered by the Moodle course “Überblick zum Management von Forschungsdaten (FDM I-online)” / “Research Data Management – an Overview (RDM I – online)“. Please use this course as introduction to Research Data Management.

On November 12, 2024, Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and RWTH Aachen University will host the 4th Day of Research Data in NRW, a full-day event on research data management (RDM) and data science. The morning program will be organized by the state initiative fdm.nrw and broadcast as an online program (in German) in the lecture hall of the PGI. In the afternoon, the focus will be on regional networks under the motto “Successful research networks: growing together with data” (in English). Tools and services in the field of RDM and data science will be presented in interactive and practical sessions. Participants can explore two of the following topics in depth:
- De.KCD: Research Data Management in the Cloud
- DKZ.2R: Reducing data-related hurdles in research
- HDS-LEE: Data-intensive workflows in science
- HMC: Organizing software metadata with Somesy and FAIR Python Cookiecutter
The afternoon program ends with a poster session and an open exchange over drinks and pastries, where participants can network and present their own projects. Registration for the event is possible via this link.

Contemporary research involves conscious research data management (RDM) with the aim of generating high-quality research data and keeping it sustainably (re)usable, i.e. findable, accessible and understandable (FAIR-criteria). The RDM platform Coscine – Collaborative Scientific Integration Environment—supports you in this and helps you meet the requirements of research funders and comply with Good Research Practice.
This event is part of a series of in-depth modules on RDM (FDM II – modular). The basics on RDM are covered by the Moodle course “Research Data Management – an Overview (RDM I – online)”. Please use this course as introduction to RDM.
Learn about the RDM platform Coscine with all its features. Understand how Coscine supports you in making research data FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) and in meeting the expectations of research funders.

Meaningful and machine-readable metadata are a prerequisite for high-quality and sustainable research data that can be used effectively in line with FAIR principles. Without metadata, research data are worthless. Therefore, meaningful and machine-readable metadata are a prerequisite for high-quality and sustainable research data that can be used effectively. Furthermore, they are a core element of FAIR data (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable).
The research data management platform Coscine allows you to annotate research data with metadata that is suitable for your research. Coscine already provides you with basic application profiles for this purpose. In this workshop, you will learn how to extend these profiles or create your own ones with the help of the Metadata Profile Generator in Coscine.
This event is part of a series of in-depth modules on research data management (FDM II – modular). The basics on research data management are covered by the Moodle course “Überblick zum Management von Forschungsdaten (FDM-I-online)” / “Research Data Management – an Overview (RDM I – online)“.
