Adieu CAS CAMPUS Web-Phonebook

The old CAS Campus directory will be shut down on August 31, 2023. For many years it served RWTH Aachen University and the RWTH University Hospital as a web phone book. Until the introduction of RWTHonline, CAS CAMPUS was not just a web phonebook at the time, but a fully comprehensive CAMPUS management system for teaching at RWTH.
On the blog, we have provided comprehensive coverage of the project to replace CAS CAMPUS with its follow-up, RWTHcontacts, and have been keeping you up to date.
Since June 28, 2023, the web phone book of CAS CAMPUS is only available for reading and has been replaced by the new directory RWTHcontacts for the RWTH and UKAcontacts for the University Hospital. Read the rest of this entry »
Requesting User Certificates via the RA Portal – Info for End Users

As of August 15, 2023, you can request user certificates from GÉANT/TCS in the RA portal. The DFN-PKI Global used so far will cease operation on August 30, 2023.
User certificates function like a digital ID card. They are personal, which means that you can uniquely identify yourself as a user. You can use them to sign documents or e-mails and thus prove that you personally digitally signed a document or sent an e-mail.
You need a user certificate for your e-mail address? You already have a user certificate from DFN-PKI Global? How do you proceed now? In this blog post we would like to provide clarity and answer these and other questions on the subject.
Requesting User Certificates (S/MIME) via the RA Portal – Info for IT Admins

Yesterday, August 15, 2023, the RA portal (ra-portal.itc.rwth-aachen.de) was additionally enabled for the issuance of user certificates in the GÉANT/TCS (PKI). From August 30, 2023, it will no longer be possible to apply for new user certificates via DFN-PKI Global, as it will cease operation. Until August 29, 2023, there will thus be parallel operation with the well-known “DFN-PKI Global” service. All certificates issued until then will nevertheless retain their validity status for a maximum of 3 years after certificate issuance. The New IT Center Key Visual
The IT Center has a new key visual. The key visual, which we developed for marketing purposes, will be seen in many places in the future, in addition to the IT Center logo.
Whether on merchandise, the web or on print products – the key visual is versatile. In addition to the common logo, the key visual allows a clear identification of the IT Center in the RWTH Aachen University logo system.
WiFi News – Part 3: New Root, Old WiFi

On May 23, 2023, the server certificate of our authentication server “radius.rz.rwth-aachen.de” had expired. For that reason a new certificate was implemented in the system. In the first post of this blog series we informed you about this.
Now a larger change is coming up: In the future, the new certification instance GÉANT/TCS will be used and replace DFN-PKI Global. As a consequence a new Radius certificate and certification chain will be used. This migration will take place on August 1, 2023.
Eduroam will be affected with regard to registration and configuration. The exact background and what you have to do, to continue using eduroam, we will explain in the following blog post. Read the rest of this entry »
RWTHcontacts – The New and Leading Directory

RWTHcontacts has replaced CAS CAMPUS and is the new leading Directory of Organizations and People at RWTH Aachen University.
RWTHcontacts presents the information of the Directory of Organizations and People furthermore makes it accessible worldwide. In the Directory of Organizations, organization administrators can maintain the functional addresses and contacts.
In the Directory of People at RWTH, organization administrators can maintain the official addresses and contact data of the people at their organization. In addition, it’s possible to create objects (e.g. rooms) and structure their common display using headings. The corresponding functionality of CAS Campus has thus been replaced. Archive Migration – Project Completion

“It is done.” These are the words we can now say about the “Archive Migration” project. After more than two and a half years, the last data from the legacy system was migrated to the digital archive or Coscine last week. Now, with the completion of the project, we can review the time and evaluate the progress.
WLAN News – Part 2: eduroam and certificates

The Wi-Fi network eduroam is available on the entire campus of the RWTH Aachen University. If you have already configured eduroam on your mobile devices and chosen an automatic connection, your devices will connect to eduroam in the background. This happens as soon as your devices detect a network with the name eduroam in the vicinity.
Behind a secure connection to eduroam lie certificate structures that guarantee this security. But how exactly do these processes work? In the following blog post, we hope to provide answers to these and other questions.
Multifactor Authentication in IdM Selfservice
IT security is a major and important topic at RWTH Aachen University and the IT Center.

Already in 2021, it was reported that the introduction of multifactor-authentication (Mfa) would provide systems with greater security against unauthorized access.
In order to offer the MFA protection to further services the IdM Selfservice is now equipped with the so-called “MFA Tokenmanager”.
