Welcome Week 2019 – First steps are always difficult, but not with us!

As every year, a Welcome Week for international students took place in the summer term 2019 as well. From 25th to 29th of March, the International Office and many other organisations welcomed exchange and foreign students seeking a degree at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen.

Once again, the IT Center participated in this wonderful week of events, which aims at making it for students as easy as possible to get started – especially with respect to organisational aspects.

Welcome Week 2019 started its official programme on March 25th, 2019 with the presentation of the university’s services and the explanation of the first steps after arriving in Aachen.

The presentation “Advice for exchange/ visiting students” by Maddy Ruppé from the International Office provided basic information and tips for the newly arrived.  Maddy Ruppé informed in English about essentials for the start of Aachen’s student life, from the organisation of accommodation, to the payment of washing machines in the dormitory with the help of the BlueCard up to the enrollment,.

The following presentation “From ConnectMe to VPN”, by Nicole Filla, contained the most important information on the activation and use of the IT services provided by the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University, which are particularly important for students in the age of digitization.

Questions like “What is the ConnectMe coupon code? And why is it so important?” as well as one of the most important questions:

“How do I get into eduroam? How can I use the university’s WiFi?” – were addressed in this informational presentation.

On the following Wednesday, March 27th, 2019, the Fresher’s Fair took place in the Audimax, one of RWTH’s biggest facilities, when it comes to lecture halls.

At this information market, exhibitors from various areas of RWTH Aachen University offered the exchange and degree students the opportunity to talk about all the questions that had not been answered in the various presentations yet in a cosy atmosphere with sandwiches, delicious cookies and refreshments.

The IT Center division Service & Communication provided on-site support in IT questions about registration in various systems, activation of services and in many other matters:

Practical issues regarding the setting up of all accounts that make university life possible in the first place – from redeeming the ConnectMe activation codes to logging into RWTHonline and setting e-mail passwords – were resolved here together.

The employees of the IT Center were available as a direct contact for this and were pleased to meet many friendly students as well as to enjoy the delicious catering at the beginning of the summer semester 2019.

And, of course, they had a lot of fun, as they do every semester, being able to help with advice as well as to provide assistance.

In case there are still some questions left, students can contact the IT Service Desk during the usual opening hours at Seffenter Weg 23, Wendlingweg 10 or Super C. The people at the IT ServiceDesk will be glad to assist you.

Until then, we wish all students a good semester start and lots of fun at the RWTH Aachen University.

      Hallo Sommer Sonne Sonnenschein!
