Pling! A notification. Pling! And again, a notification. Whether it’s Whatsapp, Facebook or Snapchat, we receive notifications about the latest events from all sorts of platforms throughout the day. Assuming we haven’t turned them off. But not only the social media channels provide us with the latest announcements, also RWTHmoodle can and sends automatic notifications.

Often these are then not urgent, not relevant or not even meant for you in the first place, because a heated discussion is just taking place in a group chat. And also at RWTHmoodle we are often asked if it is possible to turn off notifications that are not of interest to oneself. Since this was not easily possible until now, we have listened to your feedback and made a few adjustments.

What will change?

The subscription for email notifications for announcements will be adjusted to the effect that it is no longer binding as of now. By default, all participants of a course room are automatically subscribed to the notifications for announcements, but they can unsubscribe personally at any time. However, people with the role of manager can set the subscription setting to mandatory. This way, participants of the learning space will receive the announcements again on a mandatory basis and will not be able to unsubscribe.

In addition, the time interval at which notifications are sent has been adjusted. Email notifications for new announcements or forum posts are sent after 5 minutes instead of 30. This speeds up communication between instructors and students.

More detailed information about creating announcements or about the forum itself can be found in the public documentation. You need more information? The IT-ServiceDesk will be happy to help you!
