Take part and make a difference!
It’s that time again: The annual RWTHmoodle usage survey starts today on June 17, 2024 and runs until July 7, 2024. You have used RWTHmoodle and were authorized in at least one learning room in the summer semester 2023? Then you now have the opportunity to share your experiences with the system and give us valuable feedback. Together we can further improve RWTHmoodle and adapt the support services accordingly.

Why Is Your Participation Important?

RWTHmoodle has been the central teaching and learning platform of RWTH Aachen University since the summer semester 2019. With the new version 4.3, which has been in use since May 14, 2023, numerous improvements have been introduced. In order to continuously optimize the platform, your opinion is of great importance. The survey aims to collect suggestions for improvements to RWTHmoodle and the associated support services. Your feedback enables us to respond specifically to the needs of the community and further improve the learning experience at RWTH.

The Impact of Your Feedback

Landing page “My courses”
You have expressed the wish to get to your own courses more quickly after logging in. The “My courses” page, which appears after logging in, does exactly that. In return, the information on “New activities” and access to the student course evaluations (EvaSys) are now only available on the dashboard.

Improved performance of the participant list and submission list for tasks
The performance of the system has also been noticeably improved in some areas to enable faster work. The participant list and the submission list for tasks now load significantly faster than before.

Reduction in the size of the activity icons and the inner spacing of the activity card tiles
The activity cards have been redesigned in Moodle 4.3 and take up less space on the course page. The RWTHmoodle team already anticipated the changes in the winter semester 2023/24 and reduced the icons on the map and the inner spacing of the activity cards. The course page thus shows more information at a glance and requires less scrolling.

Fixing the Opencast malfunction
For a longer period of time, it was not possible to play videos via the Opencast streaming server with Safari in various browsers. This challenge was also solved by updating the streaming server.

Demand-oriented alignment and expansion of the Moodle training offer
Based on the results of the user surveys, we have successively expanded our Moodle training offering in recent years. Among other things, the surveys have helped us to record the preferences of teachers with regard to training content and time frame. We have used these findings to tailor the training courses we offer in a targeted and customized manner. This includes integrating examples of best practice into the training courses and addressing criteria for optimal learning space design.

Conditions of Participation and Duration

All students, lecturers and staff who used RWTHmoodle in the summer semester 2024 and had access to at least one learning space are cordially invited to take part in the survey (survey link). The survey takes about 10 minutes, but can be interrupted at any time and continued at a later time.

Chance to Win

As in the previous year, we are giving away a total of 15 Schenk Lokal Aachen vouchers worth 15 euros each among all completed questionnaires. Take this opportunity to share your opinion and be in with a chance of winning a great prize!

Implementation and Responsible Parties

The survey is conducted jointly by the IT Center and the Center for Teaching and Learning Services, Department of Learning Platforms, Evaluation, Assessment & Analytics (LEA), at RWTH Aachen University. These teams are committed to continuously improving the user experience of RWTHmoodle and are also available for questions and feedback.
