The IdM Selfservice is the first port of call when it comes to accounts and passwords. The token manager, which you need to set up multi-factor authentication, is also integrated there. This makes Selfservice the heart of your data management. And because it is so important, we would like to introduce you to Selfservice and its navigation points.

User Data

This page is where it starts! After logging in, the first thing you will see is your Personal Data. Check that all the details are correct. Which data you can change at this point depends on your affiliation to RWTH. We have compiled a list of who can change which data and when on IT Center Help.

Under the RWTH Data tab, you can see which RWTH affiliation is stored in Identity Management.

Accounts and Passwords

This section is all about your various access data at RWTH. The access data that you will need by far the most are those of the RWTH Single Sign-On. This login screen is used before many services. The advantage: you only have to remember one set of access data. To make the login process even more secure and to protect you from data misuse, multifactor authentication has also been added downstream since July 2. So you enter your RWTH Single Sign-On access data, click on “log in” and are then asked for a second factor. You can find out more about MFA on IT Center Help in the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) section.

In the Account Overview, you can see your various accesses and accounts. You can also change passwords in this view. We have provided a list of all possible accounts and which services can be used with them on IT Center Help.

There is also the navigation point “Create Account”. Accounts that are not mandatory are not automatically created when you register in Identity Management. You can simply create them yourself. Here too, your affiliation to RWTH determines which accounts can be created.

You can delete the optional accounts if you no longer need them by clicking on Delete Account.

Token Manager (MFA)

Since July 2, one of the most popular pages of Idm Selfservice: The Token Manager. Here you can activate multi-factor authentication and set up your tokens. We recommend our YouTube playlist as an introduction to the topic. In the videos, we explain step by step how to create the TAN list and other token types. You can find help and illustrated instructions on IT Center Help in the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) section.

Devices (OAuth)

In the navigation point Devices (OAuth) you will find two sub-items: Applications and WLAN devices.

Under Applications you can see and manage all applications that access RWTH services on your behalf. An example of this is the RWTHapp. The application and the device on which the application is installed are displayed in the list. There you can also view the permissions of the apps or revoke the permissions of an application.

Under WLAN devices you will find the link to the eduroam device manager – there you can create and manage access data for the use of the WLAN eduroam.

Roles and Groups

This area is particularly relevant if you work at the RWTH. Some authorizations are regulated by the assignment of roles or membership of groups. You can view your assignments under Roles and Groups. The role administration of the respective organizational unit – i.e. the people with the role “Verwaltung Rollen” (administration of roles) at the institutes and chairs – decides who receives which roles or is to be added to which group.

Are you wondering who is responsible for role administration at your institute? You can also check this in the Selfservice. To do this, click on Role Manager.

Under Options, you can then set whether you would like to be notified by e-mail if there are changes to your own roles.

Redeem Coupon

This navigation point is thematically linked to the Roles and Groups section. If you work at an institute or chair and are to be assigned a specific role, the role administration will issue you with a coupon code. Use this page to redeem it.

BlueCard

If you would like to apply for a BlueCard – the RWTH student ID card – you can do so here. Please note that the BlueCard is only issued to certain student groups. You can find illustrated instructions on how to apply via Selfservice at IT Center Help. You can obtain more detailed information about the BlueCard from the RWTH BlueCard Service Center: https://rwth-aachen.de/bluecard

My IT Center

The last navigation point is the link to the My IT Center portal.

There you will find the various web applications for administration and configuration of the IT services of the IT Center of RWTH Aachen University are listed in groups. You can also filter the list by target group so that you only see those applications that are relevant for students, for example.
