Archive Migration – The Journey Continues!

Archive migration is probably what is called a mammoth project in IT. In addition to the enormous size of around 1.7 petabytes (PB) that needs to be migrated, some of the data has been stored in the archive for a very long time. This in itself is a great result and testimony to a secure and stable archive, but this circumstance caused the project team around the archive migration one or the other challenge.
Feedback on the Beta Version of the RWTHapp 2.0
As part of the beta test, you had the opportunity to test the new RWTHapp in advance in mid-May – which around 3,000 of you did diligently. With the help of your feedback, we are now continuing to work on the app, which is expected to be ready for launch in the course of the coming winter semester 2022/2023 and will accompany you through your daily university life.

Email Security – E-Mail & Mail Statistics at RWTH

About 50 years ago, the first e-mail was sent – albeit between two computer systems that were part of the same local network. In the 1980s, the internet was opened up to a larger circle of users and e-mail was given its own transmission protocol “Simple Mail Transfer Protocol” (SMTP).
Even today, the exchange of messages via e-mail is undoubtedly an important way of exchanging information between parties via an asynchronous communication channel.

IT Center Satisfaction Survey 2021 – The Results are in!

In October and November 2021, we conducted our annual IT Center Satisfaction Survey, in which all members of the RWTH Aachen University were able to rate the services and support offered by the IT Center.
In the survey, we also asked for your suggestions for improvements and – due to the special situation – asked questions about the IT Center’s handling of the Corona situation.

The IT Center wants to offer you the best possible support in all IT situations. The Service & Communication division, which provides 1st-level support, among other things, undergoes regular external audits to ensure that this is the case.

Microsoft 365 at RWTH Aachen University
Meetings with colleagues, joint coffee breaks, self-organization during studies and exchange with fellow students – all of this would not have been so easy since spring 2020 at the latest without progressive digitization and continuous and flexible adaptation to the circumstances.
