From August 24 to August 27, 2025, the 54th International Congress & Exposition on Noise Control Engineering (InterNoise) was held in São Paulo, Brazil. It was organized by the Brazilian Association for Acoustical Quality (ProAcústica) in collaboration with the International Institute of Noise Control Engineering (I-INCE) and the Brazilian Society of Acoustics (SOBRAC). Michael Vorländer and Jonas Heck contributed to the session Soundscape in built environments with the following presentations:
- Michael Vorländer, Lukas Aspöck, Janina Fels: Applications of IHTA’s Virtual Acoustics Tools for Soundscape Research
- Jonas Heck, Michael Vorländer, Janina Fels, Josep Llorca-Bofí, Julio Cesar Boscher Torres, Roberto Esteban Campos Ruiz: An Approach to a Virtual Reality Representation of the Copacabana Soundscape
A special feature of the conference were the so-called silent sessions, which offered a unique experience for both speakers and the audience. This concept allowed three speakers to give their presentations simultaneously in the same room by streaming the audio via wireless headphones. The visit to the spectacular concert hall Sala São Paulo marked the end of the conference.
After the InterNoise, Jonas visited the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) at the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Campinas, which is located in the proximity of São Paulo. At Unicamp, the former IHTA staff member Bruno Masiero establishes a new acoustics laboratory including a low-noise listening booth that will allow for immersive audio studies.
