The frequent issue of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), especially in the army, has encouraged the research and development of hearing protection devices (HPDs). HPD research and development in the area of military involves the consideration of the maximum number of rounds allowed to be fired for one day, which is dependent on sound level, weapon spectrum, reflections, and attenuation by the various HPD models. The maximum number of allowed rounds per day can be calculated by using different damage risk criteria (DRC) equations. A comparison of the resulting transfer functions from different DRC simulations and measurements are done in this internship to validate and improve the credibility of the HPD simulation models. A look into other DRC and evaluation methods is also done to explore the possibility and reliability of using different evaluation methods.
