Research data management (RDM) is an essential part of modern science and research. In order to optimally prepare researchers at RWTH Aachen University for the challenges of handling research data, we offer the RDM II compact workshop once a year. This one-day hands-on workshop takes place on site at the University Library and is aimed at anyone who would like to deepen their knowledge of research data management.
What Can You Expect at the RDM II Workshop?
The RDM II compact workshop builds on the self-study course “Overview of Research Data Management (RDM I)” and offers an excellent opportunity to put theoretical knowledge into practice. Through practical exercises and peer-to-peer exchange, you can reflect on and optimize your working methods.

- Data management in the practice: Learn how to organize and manage your research data effectively.
- Data management plans: Learn how to create sound data management plans to organize your research in a structured and transparent way.
- Documentation: Deepen your knowledge in the comprehensive documentation of your research data.
- Archiving and publishing research data: Discover the best methods and practices for long-term archiving and publication of your data.
Tools and Resources at RWTH Aachen University
During the workshop, the tools used at RWTH Aachen University will be presented. These include:
- Coscine: A platform for managing and archiving research data.
- RDMO: A tool for creating and managing data management plans.
- Git/Gitlab: Version control systems for managing and collaborating on code and data.
- RWTH Publications: The publication system of RWTH Aachen University for the publication and dissemination of research results.
