At least a little less than a dozen of Europe’s supercomputers were taken offline simultaneously in May 2020. Several university centres in Europe have been attacked by hackers and had to go offline. The unknown perpetrators hacked the accounts of the users in order to gain access to the supercomputers. Fortunately, our high-performance computer was not affected, but JURECA, JUWELS and JUDAC at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre, Hawk at the Stuttgart High Performance Computing Centre and the supercomputers at the Leibzig Computing Centre (LRZ), for example, fell victim to the attack.

Microsoft Outlook is a popular software that is mainly used for managing e-mails and appointments. You use it to receive and send your e-mails, coordinate appointments, maintain contacts, and manage tasks. Despite the fact that it is frequently used on a daily basis, one doesn’t necessarily know all of its functions. For this reason, we have compiled six useful tips for you below, which will make using Outlook even easier.

New SSID – RWTH institutes – in the WLAN
RWTH Aachen University offers wireless data communication (via WLAN) to all WLAN enabled devices throughout the university. This WLAN service is offered by WLAN access points.

These access points broadcast one or more SSID’s, which the devices can connect with and thus get internet access. The term SSID stands for Service Set Identifier and is simply the name of a WLAN network. RWTH offers many SSID’s such as:
- eduroam for students, employees and guests of participating institutes
- RWTH-guests for quests without an eduroam identification
- RWTH-devices for IoT devices, e.g. measuring instruments and sensors
