As part of the beta test, you had the opportunity to test the new RWTHapp in advance in mid-May – which around 3,000 of you did diligently. With the help of your feedback, we are now continuing to work on the app, which is expected to be ready for launch in the course of the coming winter semester 2022/2023 and will accompany you through your daily university life.
Of course, we do not want to deprive you of the results of the beta test and have summarized them for you in this report.
Numbers and Facts
First, a few numbers: Out of 2,940 installations, the app was installed 1,781 times on Android devices and 1,159 times on iOS devices.
In the end, 1,272 people filled out the corresponding questionnaire, which gave us a good impression of how we can proceed with the relaunch of the RWTH app.
The participants were on average 22.65 years old and 97 percent of them were students of RWTH Aachen University, of which 25 percent were in their first year of study and 30 percent had already been studying at the university for more than six semesters. Students from the Faculties of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences as well as Mechanical Engineering in particular tested diligently.
It is very pleasing to note that 95 percent of all participants already use the current RWTHApp or have used it in the past. The most popular functions in the current RWTHapp are the mensa, the timetable and the grade overview. In addition, the users would like to receive an extension of the RWTHapp to include various applications from RWTHmoodle and RWTHonline, most notably the display of exam results.
Old vs. New
Comparison of the current RWTHapp with the beta version users are more satisfied with the new RWTHapp than with the current app in terms of user-friendliness, navigation and technical performance. Nevertheless, there was also potential for improvement: the appearance of the current RWTHapp was rated better on average than that of the new one. The font size and icons were criticized in particular. We take this criticism to heart and continue to work on improving the new RWTHapp and tailoring it to your needs.
Overall, the beta test was a complete success for us! We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your active participation and the numerous constructive suggestions for improving the app!
