Hello Herne! Further Education Days in the Ruhr Region

I was able to go on an educational trip to the Advanced Training Academy of the Ministry of the Interior of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (FAH) in Herne recently as part of our internal advanced training concept. What my time was like during the two-day training on the topic of personnel marketing and employer branding, how important the topic is in times of labour shortage and what other exciting content I took away with me, I have recorded for you in this blog post.

 

The so-called “post-Corona period” makes it possible and training courses are increasingly taking place in presence again. This was also the case with the two-day training [at the end of June] in Herne, which I included in my personal training portfolio. For some, face-to-face events are a significant advantage: not only do you acquire new knowledge, but you also get to know people, the speakers and the surroundings, such as the mining town of Herne. Nothing stood in the way of personal growth and enrichment!

 

The public service as an employer

The so-called “post-Corona period” makes it possible and training courses are increasingly taking place in presence again. This was also the case with the two-day training in Herne, which I included in my personal training portfolio. For some, face-to-face events are a significant advantage: not only do you acquire new knowledge, but you also get to know people, the speakers and the surroundings, such as the mining town of Herne. Nothing stood in the way of personal growth and enrichment!

The training, which took place over two days, focused on the topics of personnel marketing and employer branding in the public sector. A total of seven participants from all over North Rhine-Westphalia came together for the training, and they came from a wide variety of administrative areas. The fact that the public service is diverse was already evident in the introductory round. Whether as a clerk or employee, civil servant or civil servant, there are many ways to choose a job in the public service. For many, however, the job description is still an outdated, rigid one with little room for manoeuvre and, of course, quite a lot of bureaucracy. In addition, there are currently more than 17,000 vacancies in NRW (source: DGBNRW). Therefore, personnel marketing for the public service, which applies the marketing idea to the personnel sector, is indispensable. Employer branding, which is considered the core of personnel marketing, helps to build up an employer brand. This provides orientation and highlights the unique selling proposition of an employer.

 

Administration can also be different

…And it is no longer (everywhere) inflexible, complicated and with an “old-fashioned” image. A lot is changing – especially the Corona pandemic gave the administration a huge boost in terms of digitalisation. How many attractiveness factors lie behind the employer is clear to some, but still requires further communication. Therefore, a list of different attractiveness factors was compiled in the training seminar in Herne in order to position the advantages of the public service more clearly:

  • Digitalisation
  • Scope for creativity within the area of responsibility
  • Good induction – onboarding
  • Homeoffice with good technical equipment
  • Internal development opportunities (rotation etc.)
  • Modern administration
  • Job security
  • Compatibility of career and family
  • Reliability
  • Diversity of tasks and relevance to society
  • Opportunities for further education and training.

These and other factors of attractiveness were collected by the participants of the seminar and of course differed with regard to the various workplaces. However, it was made clear to us participants how diverse and attractive the public service can be. 🙂

All in all, it was an exciting two days in the Ruhr region and so I travelled back to Aachen with new input, nice conversations and memories. Herne, maybe see you next year!

 

The IT Center of RWTH Aachen University as an employer
