The IT Center has two account renamings for two services to announce! As of March 23, 2023, the account “RWTH Service” will be renamed “RWTH-E-Mail” and the account ” L²P” will be renamed “RWTH Collaboration”. What the name changes mean for you and what the background for the renaming is, you can find out in this blog post! (*)

Goodbye RWTH Service – Hello RWTH-E-Mail!

RWTH Service stands for the “RWTH-E-Mail-Account” and enables you to communicate across organizations at RWTH Aachen University. The service, managed by the IT Center, includes the following:

  • Provision of e-mail functionality
  • Calendar and appointment management functions

As a RWTH student you will receive a private RWTH e-mail address in the form Firstname.Lastname@rwth-aachen.de automatically after your enrollment when you redeem the Connect-Me coupon. Employees of RWTH Aachen University will receive an official e-mail address, e.g. in the form [last name]@institution.rwth-aachen.de, from the respective IT contact person with the role “Administration MailAdm” of their respective institution. Excluded from this are, for example, employees whose RWTH Aachen institution operates its own mail server.

Employees of RWTH Aachen University can also have a private RWTH e-mail address created in the form Firstname.Lastname@rwth-aachen.de by contacting the IT-ServiceDesk of the IT Center. However, these are not used for official purposes.

Where do I encounter the Service RWTH-E-Mail?

The RWTH Service has been with us as a faithful everyday helper for more than a decade and we come across it in IdM Selfservice.

Because if you ever need to reset the RWTH e-mail password, the login in the IdM Selfservice is due, followed by a click on the account overview into your own personal services and accounts.

Once there, click again on the empty box on the left and finally on “next” further down to set a new password for your own RWTH-E-Mail account.

In the future, the account overview will read “RWTH-E-Mail” instead of “RWTH Service” to make it even easier to access this service and make settings.

Instructions and other helpful tips regarding the RWTH-E-Mail account can be found on IT Center Help.

Goodbye L²P – Hello RWTH Collaboration!

In the future, you will find “RWTH Collaboration” next to the RWTH-E-Mail account in IdM Selfservice. Behind this is none other than the former teaching and learning portal L²P account.

The L²P account is currently still created automatically for students and employees, and as part of most coupon procedures. In the past, the account was required to log in to the learning platform RWTHmoodle, which was new until then. However, this link has been obsolete since L²P was shut down in 2021.

Since then, the L²P account in the IdM Selferservice has merely been the authorization to access various Sharepoint applications. Accordingly, the teaching and learning portal L²P Account becomes “RWTH Collaboration”.

SharePoint Shared Service is provided by the IT Center to RWTH institutions to support collaboration, such as managing projects or coordinating tasks.

If you are interested, you will receive your own SiteCollection within a SharePoint server farm, which will be administered exclusively by you.

Necessary for the SharePoint SiteCollection is the role of the SharePoint SiteCollection Administrator. This is the central role that ensures that the SiteCollection settings are properly configured. It includes creating the “look and feel” for the SiteCollection, adding users and permissions, customizing lists and libraries, monitoring activity, and communicating with users.

Another great advantage of SharePoint is the ability to edit documents directly using external applications. You don’t need to download and upload files, but work with locally installed applications such as Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office PowerPoint and Microsoft Office Excel. To do this, you connect to SharePoint and in no time at all you can edit documents in a streaming manner.

On IT Center Help you can find more information and a list of functions for your own SharePoint SiteCollection.

What does the renaming mean for you?

Nothing will change for you, except for the name. The aim of the renaming is simply to create a unique name for the services behind RWTH-E-Mail and RWTH Collaboration, so that you can see at a glance in IdM Selfervice which benefits are behind the individual accounts.
