Welcome, Webex!

Today, Webex was activated RWTH-wide. All employees can now use the cloud-based messenger and team collaboration app from Cisco Systems.
In the first blog post about Webex, we familiarized you with the first steps. You now know how to install the app and how to log in afterwards.
But what features does Webex offer and how exactly are they used? We will answer these questions in the following article and introduce you to the four most important functions for using Webex at RWTH Aachen University: Softphone, Chat Collaboration, Cloud Calling, and Meetings.
RWTHmoodle: New Features and Plugins in Pilot Operation

Since 2019, RWTHmoodle has been part of everyday teaching and learning and is constantly being further developed to make E-Learning easier for students and teachers.
This winter semester, there are four new features as well as two plugins that can be tested in pilot operation by interested teachers.
In September, all professors and academic staff received an e-mail to find test subjects for the new plugins. At the end of the pilot phase, an evaluation will be conducted to decide whether the plugins will be used permanently.

The Webex Go-Live Is Coming Soon!
After a test phase lasting several months, the day has come: On November 2, 2023, the Webex application will be made available to all employees of RWTH Aachen University. In the long term, Webex is intended to replace the Jabber client, as Jabber is only being further developed to a limited extent.
But what exactly is Webex and how does it work? We would like to explain this to you in a total of three blog posts.
In this first post of the Webex series we talk in general about Webex and how the first steps are, so that you can use the app properly.

Be Future: Fair for Young People
In the past few days, the “Be Future” fair was once again held at the St. Ursula Gymnasium in Geilenkirchen. This fair offers a comprehensive insight into the wide range of career opportunities – be it university studies, dual course of studies or apprenticeships.
Since the first Be Future in 2006, more and more students have been visiting this fair and this time there were more exhibitors than ever before. Nearly 90 exhibitors were on hand to provide information to around 2,000 young people about what options are available after school and what to expext in a univeristy or apprenticeship.

Email Security – Evaluation of DMARC Policy for Incoming Emails

In the fourth part of our e-mail security series, we would like to inform you about an innovation in our e-mail security policy.
After we reported on e-mail, e-mail statistics at RWTH Aachen University, and the SMTP protocol and its pitfalls in the first and second articles, and informed you about the DKIM identification protocol and DMARC in the third article, this fourth part is now about a new e-mail security requirement. To ensure that RWTH can continue to provide a secure e-mail service in the future, we have decided to introduce the evaluation of a sender’s DMARC policy when accepting mail at the university’s central mail gateway. You can find out what this means in this blog post.
